 One of the many impressive
features of the LBV are the thrusters. Considerable
engineering and testing was put into the thruster design
creating a powerful and efficient design.
Fitted to each LBV vehicle
are four (4) of thrusters. Port forward, starboard
forward, vertical and lateral configurations allow
movement on all axis. Each thruster is the same allowing
for a single spare to be carried. Additionally, each
thruster is isolated in the event of flooding keeping
the other thrusters and main housing from flooding
also.
For efficiency and safety
the propeller is enclosed in a Kort nozzle. The Kort
nozzle is constructed from high strength glass filled
nylon and provides an efficiency gain of more than
40%. A two (2) bladed propeller designed for efficiency
in both directions is fitted to the stainless steel
motor shaft.
Standard Thruster
The standard thruster is
driven by a BRUSHED DC motor and has a Bollard thrust
of 2.3kgf - 5.1lbs.

Higher Performance Brushless
DC Thrusters
Standard on the deeper systems
and optional on the LBV150 are
super high performance thrusters. Utilizing the same
outer configuration the internal motor is a BRUSHLESS
DC. This allows for higher output creating 3.25kgf -
7.2lbs of Bollard thrust. Greater advances are the reduction
in maintenance since there are no brushes and the housing
is oil compensated.
