LBV Details

The LBV1502 line of ROVs brings a whole new meaning to high performance small ROVs. Equipped with more standard features than any other small ROV the LBV is in a class of its own. Designed from years of experience and knowledge the LBV is a proven underwater inspection tool.

Perfect Balance
The LBV1502 system is the perfect balance between compact size, ideal mass, powerful thrusters and small diameter umbilical. Understanding that the umbilical represents the most significant impact on drag to a ROV, the LBV is supplied with the incredibly small diameter umbilical of 7.6mm. Adding to the impressive umbilical are the very powerful thrusters, able to pull the umbilical with ease.

What makes LBV even more exceptional is the ideal mass in relation to the umbilical and thrusters. It is one thing to be able to pull the umbilical, but once power is released the LBV is able to maintain a stable position without excessive influence from the umbilical. Other small ROVs have more umbilical drag and less power, less power and lower mass or all of the above making it very difficult to maintain a stable position in conditions less than perfect. Often referred to as "Tail wagging the dog syndrome".

LBV - a small ROV controlled by the operator not the umbilical.

Performance Driven
Taking small ROV performance to the next level are the very powerful thrusters. Not content with just three thrusters LBV is fitted with four. Two forward, one vertical and one lateral. Movement is possible forward, reverse, rotate, vertical and lateral. Adding the fourth thruster (lateral) greatly improves control and inspection capabilities. Imagine survey the hull of a vessel where you approach the side of the hull. Now you wish to scan the hull from the bow to the stern. Unless your ROV is fitted with a lateral thruster or panning camera it will be difficult. With LBV you simply move the joystick laterally and glide along the hull of the vessel carefully capturing the important video footage.

Adding to the practical thruster layout is the actual thruster performance data. Each thruster has an impressive Bollard thrust of 2.9kgf (6.4lbs). The two forward thrusters provide a combined forward thrust of 5.5kgf (12.13lbs) propelling the vehicle along the surface at 2.75 knots. With an in air weight of 11kg the combination of power and compact dimensions give an outstanding power to weight ratio.

Design Superiority
One of the most important aspects of a small ROV is its umbilical. Often overlooked or misunderstood the umbilical can represent the biggest obstacle in a ROV system - until LBV. Where misunderstandings happen are in the impact on drag of the umbilical versus the ROV itself.

When LBV was originally designed it was understood that it had to have the smallest possible umbilical diameter, to keep drag to a minimum. The revolutionary design resulted in a nominal 7.6mm diameter which is 24% less than LBV's nearest competitor and if that is not enough LBV has 75% more power than the same competitor.

Reduced drag is not the only benefit of the LBV umbilical, weight is also a key factor. The LBV's umbilical is 55% lighter than its 10mm competitor. Add the weight of the LBV, umbilical and control console and the system weight is less than smaller ROVs.

270¼ High Resolution Video
Each LBV1502 is fitted with a high resolution color camera as standard. The super HAD chip has 570 lines of resolution, only requires 0.3 lux of light, has a 3.6mm lens, auto iris and manual focus. Total control with exceptional video quality.

The camera is mounted to a rotating chassis to provide 270¼ field of vision. Simply pressing the tilt keys on the hand controller enables the operator to adjust the camera angle.

Tracking the camera is a 50 watt quartz halogen lamp that has a manually variable intensity control. Fixed lights are not much good if you want to look straight up or straight down.

Fitted to the LBV150S2 and the LBV150L2 is a secondary forward camera. The second camera is an ultra low light Black & White camera. On the controller is a camera button used to switch between the cameras. Use the B/W when water conditions are turbid.

Intuitive Operation
The LBV150S2 and LBV150L2 systems come complete with the convenient and rugged case fitted with the surface power supply and hand controller. Simply open the lid, plug into mains power and connect the umbilical. Fast and efficient. The lower portion contains the surface power supply and the hand controller. Using a coiled cable the hand controller can be removed depending on preference.

The LBV150B2 system utilizes the separate hand controller and surface power supply system.

All the controls for LBV are via an ergonomically designed hand controller. Whether the operator is new or experienced operating LBV is simple and intuitive. With all the controls at your finger tips you can focus on the capturing of video and not the fumbling around with awkward controls.

Functions include: all thruster controls, variable thruster control, auto functions, trim, camera controls, light controls, overlay, accessories and all programming.

Surface Power Supply - Safe
LBV has minimal power requirements. Depending on the system input power is from 650 to 1,000 watts. All systems have an international power supply with acceptable inputs of 100-130VAC or 200-240VAC 50/60 Hz. The question sometimes arises regarding safety. LBV is designed with safety in mind. Protecting those around are safety features as outlined in the "Code of Practice for Safe use of Electricity in Water" as published by the Association of Diving Contractors. Such features include isolated power supply, ground fault interrupter, line insulation monitor, residual current monitor and leak detectors. LBV is safe to operate.

On screen Information Overlay
Each LBV system is supplied with an on screen information overlay. The critical information displayed aids the operator in navigation, setup and control. With the information displayed right on the video screen there is no need to look away ensuring you don't lose track of your position. Also, the overlay position can be changed from bottom to top or even off completely.

Information Displayed:

        • Thruster Gain Settings
        • Heading
        • Depth
        • Turns Counter
        • Water Temperature
        • Camera Angle
        • Date/Time
        • Trim On/Off
        • Light Level

Highly Portable
The entire LBV1502 system is easily transported in the included transit cases. In one case the LBV, video cables and documentation are stored in custom closed cell foam. The other case houses the umbilical, surface power supply, control console, spares kit and spare thruster assembly. Again the second case is fitted with closed cell foam.

Each case is fully waterproof when closed and even floats. There is a retractable handle on each including wheels. The cases can be carried on any commercial airplane and often without excess baggage fees.

Backup
As rugged as LBV may be there are requirements for maintenance. Also, due to the rugged conditions in which an ROV is operated there will with out a doubt be times when minor repairs are necessary. With each LBV system sold a spares and tool kit is supplied. All the tools needed to do virtually any repair are included.

The spares consist of a lamp, props, fasteners, seals, gel lube and more. Located on our website are extensive procedures manuals walking you through each operation. Also, included with the spares is a complete thruster assembly that can be used in any of the four locations.
