The first three production Gavia AUV’s systems are being delivered to:
National Research Council in Ottawa. This 200 meter depth rated Gavia will be shared between the infrastructure group of NRC and IOT in St. Johns NFL. Infrastructure will use the Gavia as an internal long distant pipeline and tunnel inspection tool . OTI will use the Gavia for seafloor mapping and under ice investigations.
University of British Columbia in Vancouver. This 500 meter depth rated Gavia is outfitted for Science and carries CTD, Back Scatter, ADCP up & down, Acoustic modem, Dual Frequency Side Scan Sonar and a high resolution digital Camera mounted in the nose cone. UBC will use their Gavia to map lakes in western Canada.
US Navy in San Diego CA. This 200 meter depth rated Gavia is undergoing test and evaluation by the US Navy as a MCM AUV. This Gavia carries, Dual Frequency Side Scan Sonar, OAS, Internal INS, DVL and a high resolution digital Camera mounted in the nose cone.

Gavia AUV system
System Description
Gavia is a fully modular AUV with user changeable modules
that are assembled using Gavia's unique QuickLock system (Pat.
Pending). Gavia modules can be replaced in minutes, allowing fast
reconfiguration and battery replacement. The modular construction
means that the integration of new hardware and software modules
is possible with minimum effort.
In addition to standard configurations, Gavia can be
built and configured to specific applications by the provision
of custom hardware and software modules.
The Gavia range of equipment includes a wide selection of sensors and navigational equipment,
including side-scan sonar, a CTD meter, digital cameras, and a
high-precision inertial navigation system.
One or more Pentium PC processors, running a true multitasking
operating system, handle high-level mission control, data acquisition
and data processing functions on board Gavia, while time critical
autopilot functions are handled by a separate real-time micro controller
network.
An advanced distributed software architecture enables
the execution of pre-programmed paths as well as a range of intelligent
reactive behaviors, such as obstacle avoidance, bottom-tracking,
pipe-tracking, and adaptive search. New behavior can be added
to Gavia's capabilities by third parties, using the open software
interface based on the CORBA industry standard.
Data accumulated during a mission is stored on hard
disk for straightforward downloading over wireless local area network
(LAN), satellite and acoustic links. Remote mission planning and
servicing is possible through the same communication channels.
